This is awesome, Scott - loved it! What a memory. You really made it come to life for me. I felt like I was right there beside you. And thanks a bunch for giving my story a shout-out!
Ripple in a bota bag! ha ha ha. You didn't need to tell ME the date. This is Classic Ocamb -- always at your best when you are on the back of a motorcycle and looking for trouble. And those dancing hot dogs! What a jolt to my memory. I totally loved this! Nicely edited, too.
Drive-Ins have always seemed so magical to me. I've never been to one (i've yet to cross it off MY bucket list!), but I felt like I got an inkling of the experience through your post :)
I’m with the rest Scott: this is one of my favorites of yours. One of the things I find most interesting about your writing Scott is how “plain” your style is, so free of ornament, and yet still very involving. I learn a lot from reading your stuff. And yeah, the bota bag and the drive-in, both of an age. I remember my folks taking us to see The Godfather at a drive-in. I wasn’t ready for that movie (I was probably 12) and I still wonder what the hell they were thinking.

You bet, it was fun to write about. This is one of the great things about substack, sharing stories with other writers.

Thanks Sharron, so how do you know about ripple and wine botas?? This was very fun to write.
Santa Cruz, 1970s, broke ... that's all I'm saying about that ... lest I smear my already-compromised reputation.

Thanks for your kind comment
I definitely remember the drive. I took my girlfriend, now wife, to see JAWS in 1975
Thanks Jim, I saw Jaws at a drive in too. Good memories.

Thanks so much for your kind comments. I took my daughter to a drive-in to like 2010 and it was fun seeing her enjoy it.
I really enjoyed this, Scott!
Thanks Rebecca, it is a great memory and was fun to write.
