It was election night 2020. I decided to take a break from the drama unfolding on TV and go on a walk around my cul-de-sac. I took a drink from my Jack Daniels on the rocks, set it on the table, and walked outside. It was a chilly night and the full moon was high in the sky; my body cast a shadow on the street as I walked. The moon doesn't care about us humans, the drama and excitement we put ourselves through, I thought. The moon had been rising and setting for eons; our caveman ancestors looked at the same moon I was that night. Eons from now, long after the houses in my neighborhood crumble to dust, it will still be there.
Thank you, Scott. I find it is always helpful to remind myself of the big picture. Any time I am worrying about something, I step out on the porch and just watch the stars for a while. A year from now, who will even remember my my rent check was a little late, or that I gained another pound? This earth is a grain of sand in the universe. My life just an instant's breath.
